Hi Kristin
Glad this is helpful 🙂
Yes… Rosemary & Co have stopped importing to the US for a while now because their license expired for importing natural hair brushes !
However, you could still get them through their USA Distributor “Mary Rawle” at windriverarts.com

One thing most people aren’t aware of is that a lot of watercolor paper (e.g. Arches) is NOT vegan. The sizing is made with animal derived gelatin. Two 100% watercolor papers that are vegan are Fabriano Artistico and Hahnemühle The Collection.
Also, not all Daniel Smith Watercolors are Vegan. From their website:
“The only animal-derived ingredient we use is the pigment PBk9, found only in the following colors: Sepia, Ivory Black, Joseph Z’s Neutral Grey & Payne’s Gray.” Since Payne’s Gray is so often a recommended color, I replace it with Jane’s Gray which is a mix of 3 primaries and does not contain black.

Another thing you can use is corrugated plastic sign boards (coroplast) cut to size. It is very light weight. Wipes down clean and holds up to water.

Hi Yvette
So I managed to find a couple of silverish chop stick “stands” (?) at an antique fair I visited recently (the lady had to tell me what they were) but I just thought they’d be – and have since proved to be – brilliant to keep brushes resting upwards without rolling around / off onto the floor! They were a bargain too!

Hi Cindy
I have a couple of boards that I use regularly – the small one is 16 1/2 x 12 inches.
Mine is made out of plywood which is ideal for working with wet media because it remains flat…
Unfortunately most boards like this have rough edges, so you may need to sand them down to make them more comfortable to work with.
I did however find this one on Jacksons…

Fantastic article I’ve found very helpful. Could you recommend dimensions of the wood flat board? I live in the United States and when I search on websites such as Amazon and Michaels for options, none look like yours. Also, are there some woods that are lighter than others (but work just as well)? And any other recommendations for this item would be helpful.
Thank you!
– Cindy
