I have downloaded quite a few of your lessons. I have learned more from viewing these than most others that are out there. I intend to one day take your class. Thank you for being so generous!

I’ve only been painting for about 6 months, so this was a great help. Thank you.

Hi Olga
The two paints give a very similar appearance – the difference is that New Gamboge uses a mixture of two pigments, but Hansa Yellow Deep is a single pigment paint.
I try to stick to single pigment paints in my palette as far as possible.

Since the new Daniel Smith 6-color starter set comes with New Gamboge instead of a Hansa Yellow (Deep?), would you say the two shades are close enough? Or . . . correct the Gamboge a bit with a yellow ochre or something?
— Thanks, Olga

I have been painting for only 2 1/2 years. I was never taught these terms and when I first heard them I was confused. I had been told to fade or shade, but the clear cut definitions and descriptions of lost and hard edges were not used or effectively taught until I found one particular teacher. Thank you for writing with such clarity on a subject that is so difficult for many of us.
