Hi Susan, nice to hear from you — I’m really glad to hear you’re picking up your brushes again! Watercolor absolutely can create that layered, dimensional look you’re after — it’s all about glazing and understanding value.
Have fun with your watercolors 🙂

I am beginning to pick up my brushes again. I did in the intervening period try acrylic and oil and just couldn’t get on with them (too messy and a) dry too fast or b) dry too slow!). What I would really so love to create is something similar to what you achieved in your ‘oranges’ video and the ‘artichoke’ that is layers on layers that almost give a chiselled effect to the different surface directions of the subject and gives illusion of depth. I think that is why I tried oil and acrylic, I didn’t think I could ever accomplish anything like this in wc? Thanks, Susan UK
