Hi Steph
It’s a bit confusing because vellum can mean two different things. Traditionally, vellum was made from animal skin (like calf or goat), but in modern paper-making—especially in art supplies like the Strathmore 500 Series—vellum refers to the surface texture of the paper, not the material it’s made from.
In this case, Strathmore’s “vellum surface” just means the paper has a slightly textured finish.
If you want to use it for watercolor you might want to choose the thicker version of the paper.
Hope that helps 🙂

The same issue applies to inks. I like to do “Ink & wash” so i also had to find a vegan ink for my sketches and Octopus Fluids has made it (Write & draw serie). The black is waterproof, as black as indian ink and 100% vegan.
